    I think the distinction of the wise and foolish virgins based on their response to God’s word is very accurate. You have to keep the Jewish wedding customs in mind when reading this parable. The bridal party didn’t know when the groom would come for the bride. Even the groom didn’t know, but waited for the father’s word to go and get his bride. So it will be at the last day.

    WOW! Now this parable makes sense!

    People would always tell me that the oil was the Holy Spirit, but I when I would ask them how one was supposed to go out into the marketplace and purchase the Holy Spirit, they would just shrug and say I was getting to specific and myopic.

    But one CAN go to the marketplace to buy Gods Word…

    And the light that the oil helps sustain is a far better representation of the Holy Spirit…

      It makes so much better sense, doesn’t it? The guy who wrote it, Robert Hawes, did an excellent job, I thought. :)
