The Ministry of the Holy Spirit & The End Time Church

Now, more than ever, we need to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Without the baptism of the Holy Spirit we are powerless in an evil, dead, and decaying world.

Jesus’ disciples were blessed beyond belief that they had access to him in person for 3 1/2 years. They were able to listen to his sermons, his parables, and witness the many miracles he did. After his resurrection, they had Jesus, who was now fully God in his resurrected body, for 40 more days teaching them, opening the scriptures to them, and preparing them for their ministry.  They were even filled with the Holy Ghost before Jesus ascended to heaven. John 20:22 “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.”

This wasn’t the Baptism of the Holy Ghost.  This was the infilling of the Holy Ghost which would guide them and help them to live lives of holiness.  How do we know that?  Because Jesus didn’t send them out at that time to fulfill the Great Commission until they had received power from on high. Instead, he commanded them in Acts 1:4  ‘not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father,” which,” he said, ‘you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now,'” confirming the words of John the Baptist in Matthew 3:11, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I….He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and FIRE.” That fire, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, came on the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:1-4 “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

The people who were in Jerusalem and had heard what was happening, wondered was going on, and how was it that the disciples were speaking in tongues, other languages that were not their own. Then Peter boldly stood up and gave his first sermon. When the multitudes listening asked what they must do to be saved, he told them in Act 2:38-39, “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For this promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” This is for US!

Jesus told the disciples to wait for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit because he knew they would fail if they went out in their own power to preach the gospel to the world.  Only after the Holy Ghost came and baptized them with fire could they go out boldly preaching the gospel.

If the disciples needed the Baptism of the Holy Spirit before they could go out and proclaim the gospel in power, how much more then do you think we need this same baptism?

David Nathan teaches this so much more better than my few words can get across.
