Signs in the skies…and what happens next on earth

September 23rd has come and gone leaving many believers on earth disappointed that the rapture didn’t occur.  I can’t say that I wasn’t hoping something spectacular would happen, but I knew it probably wouldn’t be the rapture.  Why?  Well, Revelation 12 gives us the answer.

The entire chapter is broken down in three sections.  Verses 1-6 functions as an overview of the entire chapter with a prophetic glimpse of what is about to happen by the SIGNS displayed in the skies.  Verses 7-12 gives us a glimpse of what is actually taking place in heaven.  And Verses 13-17 tells us what will happen on earth.

The first thing we are told is that the first sign in the skies is a woman being with child and giving birth.  The second sign is that of a red dragon and his tail drawing a third of the stars of heaven and throwing them to earth.  The actual signs are evidenced by the constellations, sun, moon, and planets on September 23rd.  The second sign of the dragon, I believe, is the Draconid meteor shower that will be upon us in October from the 7-9th.  Having those two signs appear so close together are not coincidental, but prophetic.

The rest of the first section tells us that the dragon stood before the woman giving birth to devour her Child as soon as it was born. But her male Child who is to rule the nations with a rod of iron (which would be Jesus because he’s the only one who will be ruling the world with a rod of iron when he returns), is caught up to God and His throne.  The woman flees to the wilderness.

The second section is like a pause, giving us heaven’s point of view of what is happening up there.  Michael and his angels fight with the dragon (Lucifer) and his angels, but the dragon and his angels are cast down to the earth. A loud voice sounds in heaven saying that “salvation, strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they (our brethren) overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.  Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” Rev.12:10-12 (NKJV)

Section three tells us what happens on earth.  Once the dragon sees he has been cast to the earth, he persecutes the woman (Israel) who gave birth to the male Child (Jesus). But the woman is given two wings of a great eagle, to fly into the wilderness to her place where she is kept from the presence of the serpent.  The serpents attempts to go after her, but is denied.  Enraged, he (dragon/serpent/Lucifer) goes after her offspring who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Those offspring would be the believers/the remnant Church/the Bride.

So, if the dragon is pursuing and making war against the offspring who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, how can the church have been raptured and sitting in heaven on the sidelines?  Our duty as those offspring of Israel, the adopted sons and daughters of God, the grafted-on branches, is to “overcome him (Lucifer) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony, loving not our lives to the death.”

Perhaps we should look at the signs in the heavens for what they are: signs, or indicators, of what is happening in the spiritual, which would be Lucifer and a third of his angels being cast to earth in this season. Unfortunately, if that is truly the case, then  I would imagine we will see a significant escalation in the amount of wickedness over the entire earth. Literally, hell on earth.

Time is coming to an end.  We must be right before God.  If you aren’t saved, then do as Peter tells us in Acts 2:38 “Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  And yes, you will need the Holy Spirit to make it through these last few years we have left.

Times of the Gentiles

Luke 21:24  And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Maybe I’m stating what everyone else already knows or has seen, but something just hit me when I read the verse stated above.  When Jerusalem is no longer split and is under control of the Israelis, the “time of the Gentiles” will literally be over.  The time of the Gentiles indicating the time that the Lord will be saving the Gentiles, but when that time is over, it will then be the time of the Jews.

Is this correct?  Or am I misinterpreting it?  I would truly like to hear any thoughts on it from other Christians.
